Introduction — The First Day of Christmas Devotion

On this first day of our Three Days of Christmas Devotion, we begin with Simeon — a man who waited faithfully for the coming of the Messiah. His story reminds us that God never overlooks a faithful heart, and that no season of waiting is ever wasted when it is surrendered to Him.

While many see waiting as delay or disappointment, Scripture reveals that faithful waiting is often the stage on which God’s greatest promises unfold. Simeon’s patient devotion was not forgotten; it was rewarded at the appointed time. In this same truth lies our encouragement today: God will honour your waiting.

  1. The Waiting Season — Where Faith Is Formed

Simeon’s life was marked by waiting. Day after day, he entered the temple, praying, listening, and watching for the fulfillment of God’s ancient promise. There were no signs of change, no prophetic voices breaking the silence — yet Simeon waited with expectation because he trusted in the character of God.

Waiting seasons test us deeply. They stretch our hearts, refine our faith, and reveal whether our hope is in results or in the One who makes the promise.

Maybe you’re in such a season right now — waiting for an answer, a healing, a breakthrough, or a calling to unfold. It may feel endless, but hear this: God does some of His most important work in hidden seasons.

Just as roots grow deepest underground before a tree bears fruit above, your season of waiting is the soil where faith matures. In waiting, God teaches us dependence, deepens our prayer life, and trains our hearts to recognize His voice.

Simeon’s waiting was not passive. He was righteous, devout, and led by the Spirit. He kept showing up — not because he saw progress, but because he believed God’s Word would one day come to pass. That’s what faith looks like: showing up even when you don’t see results yet.

  1. Why You Are Waiting — Purpose Beneath the Delay

When we don’t understand why God is taking His time, our hearts can grow weary. But Simeon teaches us that divine timing is not delay — it’s design. God works through purpose, not pressure. What we call waiting time, God calls preparation time.

There are moments when God holds you still because He’s building something greater in you. Not punishment — preparation. Not abandonment — alignment.

Simeon’s story shows that God’s promises are never forgotten; they’re simply awaiting the fullness of time. If the promise came too early, you might not be ready to carry it. God doesn’t want to just give blessings — He wants you to be built for them.

Why are you waiting? Because your promise requires spiritual maturity, resilience, and wisdom to hold it well. Waiting seasons develop endurance — and endurance produces fruit that lasts.

Perhaps the reason you are still waiting is because God is preparing the promise and preparing you at the same time. The Spirit that rested upon Simeon was shaping him while he waited, strengthening his faith until the day his eyes saw the salvation of God.

So don’t curse your waiting — consecrate it. Let God work in the silence. There’s meaning beneath the delay.

  1. After Waiting — The Reward and Promise

Then came the moment. The child entered the temple — small, fragile, and wrapped in ordinary cloth. But Simeon knew instantly: This is the One.

All the waiting, praying, and believing converged into that sacred moment when his arms cradled the Consolation of Israel. His words overflowed in worship:
“Sovereign Lord, as You have promised, You may now dismiss Your servant in peace. For my eyes have seen Your salvation.”

The reward for waiting is not just the answer — it’s the encounter. Simeon didn’t just receive what he asked for; he experienced the presence of the Promise.

That’s what God wants for you. Not merely to receive answered prayers, but to encounter His presence through them. When your waiting ends, you will see that His timing was perfect — and that the blessing arrived not a day too early or too late.

After waiting comes peace. The kind Simeon knew. The kind that settles your heart and confirms that every tear, every prayer, and every moment of endurance mattered. God will honour every second you spent trusting Him when you couldn’t see what He was doing.

God always keeps His promises. What He started, He will finish. And when the answer finally arrives, it will carry the weight of divine faithfulness — a reminder that no waiting is ever wasted in God’s hands.

Encouragement for Today

Friends, take courage in your waiting season. God sees you. He knows the prayers you’ve whispered, the faith you’ve fought to keep, and the hope you struggle to hold onto. Like Simeon, the Spirit is with you in the waiting. The same Spirit that guided him will guide you — until the day your eyes see the fulfillment of what you’ve prayed for. When you do, you’ll understand why the waiting had to take the shape it did. The prize is not only the promise itself, but the person you became while trusting Him.

Closing Reflection

So on this first day of Christmas, let the story of Simeon remind you: your waiting is not a sign of God’s absence — it’s the setting for His arrival. When the time is right, you too will hold the promise in your hands and say with peace and gratitude,
“My eyes have seen Your salvation.” God will honour your waiting. Stay faithful. Keep showing up. Keep believing. For the same God who fulfilled His word to Simeon will fulfill His word to you.

Prayer

Faithful Hevenly  Father, thank You for the example of Simeon, who waited with hope and was rewarded by Your faithfulness. Remind us that no waiting season is wasted when it’s in Your hands. Strengthen our hearts to trust You, even when we don’t see the outcome. May our waiting become worship and our hope remain steadfast until the promise comes. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

God bless you all.
