Introduction

Beloved brothers and sisters, welcome to the presence of the Almighty God on this glorious third Sunday of May 2026.We gather today in a world that is constantly shifting, where human promises fade, financial systems fluctuate, and our personal circumstances can change in the blink of an eye. When the storms of life rage around us, where do we turn for stability?

Our anchor for today’s sermon is found in the timeless words of King David in Psalm 62:1-12. Written during a period of intense distress—likely when his own son Absalom rebelled against him—David does not cry out in panic. Instead, he speaks to his own soul about the absolute necessity of trusting God.

Our key memory verse from Psalm 62:8 in the Amplified Version challenges us to: “Trust in, lean on, rely on, and have confidence in Him at all times.” Notice that David does not say to trust God only when things are going beautifully. He says “at all times”—in the dark valleys, in the middle of financial lack, when sickness strikes, and when betrayal knocks on your door. Today, we will break down this powerful mandate into four transformative subtopics, examining how we can build an unshakable life of faith by anchoring our souls deeply in the Lord.

1. Trusting God in Quiet Submission and Patient Waiting

The opening verses of Psalm 62 establish a profound spiritual posture that challenges the very fabric of our modern lifestyle: “Truly my soul silently waits for God; from Him comes my salvation.” In a fast-paced world driven by instant gratification, digital noise, and constant striving, the spiritual discipline of waiting silently on God is largely forgotten. True trust requires us to intentionally quiet our racing thoughts, suppress our natural urge to manipulate situations, and patiently wait for God’s perfect timing. When we choose to remain quiet before the Lord, we are declaring that His sovereignty is far greater than our panic. We acknowledge that our human efforts cannot manufacture the true deliverance that only His divine hand can provide. Quiet submission is not a form of passive laziness or defeat; rather, it is an active, powerful expression of deep faith that restrains the flesh and allows the Holy Spirit to move effectively on our behalf.

A beautiful biblical example of this silent trust is found in the life of Hannah in the first chapter of 1 Samuel. For many agonizing years, Hannah suffered the deep grief of barrenness while simultaneously facing cruel provocations from her rival, Peninnah. She had every human right to react with bitter arguments, defensive anger, or malicious schemes. Instead, she chose to take her deep sorrow directly to the tabernacle of the Lord. 1 Samuel 1:13 notes that Hannah spoke directly in her heart; only her lips moved, but her voice was not heard. She waited silently and poured her soul out before God in total submission. Even before her womb was physically opened to conceive Samuel, her heart found complete rest because she surrendered her desires to the Almighty. Like Hannah, when we quiet our complaints and wait patiently on the Lord, He transforms our internal agony into an enduring testimony of peace and ultimate victory. We must learn that the silence of faith is never a waste of time, but a period of spiritual alignment. When we stop talking to the world about our problems and start waiting silently on God, we position ourselves to receive divine direction that human wisdom can never produce. Let your soul find its quiet rest in Him today, knowing that the God who sees your silent tears is already working behind the scenes to bring forth your salvation.

2. Leaning on God as Our Only Unshakable Fortress

In verse 2 and verse 6 of our text, David repeats a powerful declaration of absolute security that we must internalize: “He only is my rock and my salvation; He is my defense; I shall not be greatly moved.” When David refers to God as his rock and his defense, he is drawing directly from vivid military imagery. A fortress built high upon a massive, solid rock cliff was virtually impossible for ancient enemies to conquer or overthrow. David realizes that every human source of security—be it political alliances, military armies, or material wealth—is nothing more than a leaning wall or a tottering fence ready to collapse. When the unexpected earthquakes of life strike our health, our finances, or our families, anything that is not anchored deeply in Christ will fall apart. To lean on God means to completely transfer the full weight of our anxieties, careers, and futures onto His dependable character, knowing He cannot fail.

We see this truth vividly illustrated in the historical account of King Hezekiah in 2 Kings 19. The ruthless Assyrian army, led by King Sennacherib, had completely surrounded Jerusalem, cut off their resources, and placed them under siege. The Assyrian field commander openly mocked Judah, boasting that no god could ever deliver them from their superior military might. King Hezekiah did not lean on Egyptian military alliances or rely on his own defensive strategies. Instead, he took the threatening letters of the enemy into the temple, spread them out before the Lord, and prayed for divine defense. Because Hezekiah leaned entirely on God as his exclusive fortress, the Lord sent a single angel who destroyed 185,000 Assyrian soldiers in a single night. When you stop leaning on human understanding and make the Lord your exclusive defense, your enemies will find themselves fighting against the Creator of the universe. Leaning on God means recognizing that our own strength is insufficient, but His power is limitless. When the winds of adversity blow against your life this month, refuse to rely on the shaky foundations of human promises. Run to the Rock of Ages, hide yourself in His presence, and watch Him turn your battle into a glorious display of His protective power and sovereignty.

3. Relying on God by Pouring Out Our Hearts in Vulnerability

The first part of our key scripture, Psalm 62:8, commands us to “pour out your hearts before him.” To rely on God completely, we must be willing to be entirely honest and vulnerable in His presence. God does not ask us to wear a mask of perfection, pretend that we are okay when we are broken, or hide our pain beneath religious clichés. True reliance means bringing our raw emotions, our deep fears, our hidden grief, and even our confusing doubts directly to the altar of grace. When we pour out our hearts, we are emptying ourselves of the toxic burdens that cause depression, bitterness, and anxiety, leaving open space to be filled with His supernatural comfort, wisdom, and strength. Relying on God means recognizing that He is our safe haven, a loving Father who listens to our cries without any condemnation.

Our biblical example for this deep emotional vulnerability is King David himself during one of the darkest moments of his life in 1 Samuel 30. While David and his men were away from their base, the Amalekites raided their camp at Ziklag, burning the entire city to the ground and taking their wives and children captive. When David and his army returned, the men wept loudly until they had no more power to weep, and the soldiers even talked of stoning David in their bitter grief. David was completely distressed, yet he did not hide his pain or pretend to be stoic. He poured out his broken heart to God, enquired of the Lord using the ephod, and encouraged himself deeply in the Lord his God. Because he relied fully on God in his moments of absolute brokenness, God gave him the exact supernatural strategy to pursue the enemy and recover everything without losing a single thing. When you empty your heart before God, He fills your life with His power. Do not suppress your pain or carry the heavy weight of your trials alone. Bring your hurts to the feet of Jesus, pour out your soul in prayer, and allow His healing virtue to restore your strength and give you a divine strategy for total recovery.

4. Rejecting Human Reliance and Material Confidence

In the latter part of Psalm 62, specifically verses 9 and 10, the psalmist sounds a stern warning against putting our confidence in human status or material wealth: “Men of low degree are a vapor, men of high degree are a lie… If riches increase, do not set your heart on them.” It is incredibly easy for us to fall into the subtle trap of trusting in our bank accounts, our career positions, our academic degrees, or our influential social connections. However, the scripture reminds us that human help is temporary and material wealth can disappear in an instant. True spiritual maturity is demonstrated when our internal confidence remains entirely unmoved regardless of whether our earthly riches increase or decrease. We must learn to hold the things of this world with a loose hand, while holding onto God with an iron grip of faith.

A powerful biblical warning against material confidence is seen in the parable of the rich fool recorded in Luke 12:16-21. This wealthy man experienced a massive harvest and decided to tear down his existing barns to build larger ones, telling his soul to relax, eat, drink, and be merry because he had goods laid up for many years. He placed his entire confidence, security, and identity in his material abundance, completely ignoring his relationship with God. That very night, God declared him a fool and required his soul, leaving his accumulated wealth to others. This story warns us that relying on temporary riches always leads to ultimate spiritual bankruptcy. We must ensure that our ultimate confidence is anchored exclusively in the eternal riches of God’s grace. When we look at our lives, we must examine where our true security lies. If your confidence disappears when your finances dip, then your wealth has become your master. God is calling us today to shift our trust away from the gift and place it squarely back on the Giver. Let us reject the false security of this world, refuse to bow to Mammon, and anchor our souls in the true riches of God’s kingdom, which can never be diminished or destroyed.

This Month’s Reflection

As we reflect on the journey of this month, we must take a moment to look inward and evaluate the true state of our spiritual foundations. This month has undoubtedly brought various challenges, unexpected choices, and perhaps moments of anxiety that tested our faith. Look back over the past few weeks and ask yourself honestly: Where did your mind drift first when trouble arose? Did you run to your phone to complain to a friend, or did you run to the throne of grace in prayer? Did you find your peace in the balance of your bank account, or in the unchanging promises of God’s Word?

This month’s reflection is a divine invitation to realign our priorities and repent of any areas where we have allowed idols of self-reliance to creep into our hearts. God has been consistently faithful to us, protecting us from unseen dangers and providing for our daily needs, even when we failed to notice His hand. Let this reflection fill your heart with profound gratitude. Use these remaining days of the month to intentionally practice the discipline of silence before God, casting down every imagination that exalts itself against His knowledge. Remember that your current situation is not too difficult for God to handle. Let your reflection lead to a renewed commitment to trust Him completely, knowing that the God who brought you safely through the trials of yesterday is already standing in your tomorrows, preparing your path of victory.

Deliverance Session

Beloved, we are entering into a vital moment of supernatural deliverance, breaking every chain of fear, anxiety, and demonic oppression that has kept you bound. Many of you have been carrying heavy spirits of worry, financial panic, and emotional trauma that have suffocated your faith and stolen your joy. The Word of God declares that God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind. Today, by the authority in the name of Jesus Christ, we command every ancestral yoke of limitation, failure, and chronic disappointment to be shattered completely. We speak deliverance over your minds; every tormenting thought and sleepless night caused by uncertain situations is canceled right now by the blood of the Jesus.

We command the spirit of heaviness to lift off your shoulders and we replace it with the garment of praise. Every demonic trap set by the enemy to derail your destiny or cause you to compromise your faith this month is frustrated and dismantled by the fire of the Holy Spirit. Open your mouth right now and begin to reject every form of spiritual slavery. Declare that your soul is delivered from the snare of the fowler. We break the power of generational curses, sickness, and stagnation over your life. Receive your total freedom today. Walk out of every spiritual prison of doubt and insecurity, and step boldly into the glorious liberty of the sons of God. You are delivered, you are set free, and you are completely victorious in Christ Jesus.

Altar Call

My dear friends, as we look at the beauty of trusting God, we must recognize that you cannot truly trust someone you do not intimately know. True peace, absolute security, and eternal salvation are only found through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Perhaps you are here today, or listening to this message, and you realize that your life is built on sinking sand. You have been living apart from God, running your own life, and trying to handle your burdens in your own limited strength. You feel exhausted, empty, and disconnected from your Creator. Jesus is standing at the door of your heart right now, knocking gently, offering you full forgiveness, a fresh start, and eternal life.

This is your moment of divine destiny. Do not let another minute pass by in spiritual separation from your Savior. If you want to surrender your life to Jesus Christ, to have your sins washed away by His precious blood, and to begin walking in His divine purpose, I invite you to make that decision right now. Step forward in your heart and repeat this simple prayer of surrender: “Lord Jesus, I confess that I am a sinner in need of Your grace. I believe You died on the cross for my sins and rose again to give me life. I open my heart and receive You today as my Lord and personal Savior. Wash me clean, fill me with Your Holy Spirit, and guide my steps from this day forward. Thank You for saving me. Amen.” Welcome to the family of God!

Challenging Session

Church, as we prepare to depart from this sanctuary and enter back into our everyday environments, I want to leave you with a direct spiritual challenge. It is incredibly easy to sing about trust inside the safety of the church walls, surrounded by fellow believers. The real test of your faith begins tomorrow morning when you face difficult coworkers, mounting bills, unexpected bad news, or family tensions. I challenge you this week to intentionally change your default reactions to trouble. When crisis strikes, commit to stopping yourself before you speak words of doubt, anger, or defeat. Instead of reacting in panic, force yourself to take a deep breath, pause, and declare out loud: “God is my refuge, and I will trust Him at all times.”

Let us challenge ourselves to put down our human weapons of manipulation, gossip, and self-defense. Let us stop staying awake at night trying to solve problems that only God can fix. God is challenging each of us today to prove our faith through our obedience and our absolute stillness. Will you trust Him enough to remain silent when you are falsely accused? Will you trust Him enough to keep tithing and giving generously even when inflation rises? Will you trust Him enough to rest when your body is tired? Take up this spiritual challenge today. Let your lifestyle become a living proof to a watching world that our God is completely reliable, completely faithful, and fully capable of taking care of His own.

Prayer

Almighty and Everlasting Father, the Rock of Ages and our eternal refuge, we come before Your throne of grace today with hearts full of praise and adoration. We thank You for Your word that has brought light, hope, and strength to our souls. Father, we ask that You forgive us for the times we have relied on our own wisdom, our finances, or the opinions of men instead of leaning entirely on You. Today, we actively cast all our cares, our anxieties, our families, and our futures into Your capable hands. Fill us afresh with the Holy Spirit, and grant us the divine grace to remain calm and steady in the midst of life’s storms.

Lord, we pray for anyone here today who is feeling overwhelmed, weary, or discouraged. Lift up their bowed heads and strengthen their weak knees. Let Your supernatural peace, which surpasses all human understanding, guard their hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. We decree that throughout this week and for the rest of this month, we will walk in victory, we will operate in divine wisdom, and our faith will not fail. May Your goodness and mercy follow us in everything we lay our hands to do. We declare that we are more than conquerors through Christ who loves us. Thank You, Lord, for answering our prayers, for fighting our hidden battles, and for being our ultimate fortress. We give You all the glory, honor, and praise, in the mighty and matchless name of Jesus Christ we pray. Amen!
