We all go through seasons of sadness, depression, fear, and doubt. Even the great men of God in the Bible—Moses, Job, and Elijah—experienced overwhelming valleys of despair.
• Elijah wanted God to take his life:
“He came to a broom bush, sat down under it and prayed that he might die. ‘I have had enough, Lord,’ he said. ‘Take my life; I am no better than my ancestors.’” 1 Kings 19:4
• Moses ran away in fear:
“When Pharaoh heard of this, he tried to kill Moses, but Moses fled from Pharaoh and went to live in Midian.” Exodus 2:15
• Job cursed the day he was born:
“After this, Job opened his mouth and cursed the day of his birth. He said: ‘May the day of my birth perish, and the night that said, “A boy is conceived!”’” Job 3:1-3
• King David cried out in sorrow many times through the Psalms:
“Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise Him, my Savior and my God.” Psalm 42:11
If you find yourself under the heavy weight of depression today, know that you are not alone in your struggle. God sees your suffering. Your dark circumstances are not beyond His power to heal, restore, and redeem.
God’s Promise to You:
“To all who mourn in Israel, He will give a crown of beauty for ashes, a joyous blessing instead of mourning, a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair. They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the Lord for the display of His splendor.” Isaiah 61:3
God will lift you up. He will replace your sorrow with joy, your heaviness with peace, and your doubts with faith.
Declare Today:
I will not be overcome by fear, doubt, or sorrow. I put my hope in God, for He is my strength, my joy, and my peace.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, in my darkest moments, remind me that You are near. Lift my spirit, fill me with Your peace, and help me to trust in Your unfailing love. I surrender my burdens to You and receive Your joy in place of my sorrow. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
God bless you abundantly.
