Introduction
Welcome, church family! I am so glad you are here today. All through this month, we have been talking about a very important theme: Being Real and Walking in God’s Power. God does not want us to wear masks. He does not want us to pretend we have it all together. He wants us to be completely real with Him so that His true power can work inside our lives. Today, we are looking at one of the most amazing stories in the whole Bible—the transformation of a man named Saul in the Book of Acts.
Before this day, Saul was a very religious man, but he was not being real with God. He thought he was doing the right thing by chasing down the followers of Jesus and putting them in prison. He was full of pride and anger. But God had a different plan for him. On the road to a city called Damascus, Saul had a real meeting with Jesus. In one single moment, everything changed. The bright light of God knocked him down, and the voice of Jesus challenged his heart. This story shows us that no matter how broken your past is, or how far away you feel, God can reach you. When we stop pretending and let God break through our walls, His power takes over. Let us get ready to see how God wants to change our lives today.
- Playing the Part vs. Knowing the Heart
Saul was a highly educated religious leader. He knew the scriptures inside and out, but he did not actually know Jesus. He was living a life based on human rules and traditions rather than a real, living relationship with the Creator. It is very easy for us to fall into this same trap today. We can come to church every single Sunday, sing all the songs, and say the right words, but still keep our hearts completely closed off from the power of God. When we rely on our own strength and our own goodness, we completely miss out on the true supernatural move of the Holy Spirit.
Look at the religious leaders in the Gospels, like the Pharisees. Jesus often called them out because their hearts were far from Him, even though they looked perfect on the outside. Saul was exactly like them. He thought he was doing God a huge favor by destroying the early church. He lacked the love and the heart of God. This teaches us that being real means we must admit when we are just going through the empty motions of religion. God is not looking for clean, perfect actors who know how to play a part; He is looking for messy, broken, and honest people who truly want to know His heart. When we lay down our pride and stop trying to earn God’s favor with our good behavior, we open up the door for His real power to change us from the inside out.
My friends, we need to understand that God looks past our outward performance and looks straight into our hidden motives. You can memorize the entire Bible and know every theological answer, but if you do not have love, you have absolutely nothing. Saul had the scriptural data, but he lacked the spiritual devotion that only comes from intimacy with the Living Savior. When we pretend to be spiritually healthy while ignoring our internal decay, we block the flow of heaven in our daily lives. True power begins with absolute vulnerability at the feet of Jesus. We must stop trying to impress people with our titles, our clean clothes, and our nice vocabulary. Instead, we must bring our authentic, unfiltered struggles to the cross and allow the Holy Spirit to transform our desires. Let us break free from the tiring routine of superficial religion today. When you choose to be completely transparent about your spiritual poverty, the Lord will instantly meet you with His infinite supernatural wealth. He is calling us to drop our human scripts and step into a fresh, dynamic, and life-changing partnership with Him.
- When Heaven Crushes Your Human Plans
Saul was traveling on the road to Damascus with letters in his hand to arrest more Christians. He had his whole schedule planned out, but God had a divine interruption waiting for him. Suddenly, a brilliant light shone down from heaven, and Saul fell flat on his face. This shows us that God’s power is much greater than our own human plans. Sometimes, God has to break through our busy lives and interrupt us to get our attention. He will allow situations that knock us off our high horses so that we are forced to look up and see Him for who He really is.
Think about Jonah in the Old Testament. He had his own plan to run away from God’s command and sail off to Tarshish. But God sent a great storm and a giant fish to interrupt his rebellious journey. That interruption saved Jonah’s life and put him back on the right path. For Saul, being blinded by the light was painful and scary, but it was exactly what he needed to finally see the truth. When God interrupts your life with a trial, a sudden change, or a moment of deep conviction, do not fight against it. Be real about your situation. God uses these powerful moments to stop us from walking down the wrong paths and to show us His great mercy.
Many times, we look at the sudden disruptions in our lives as attacks from the enemy, when they are actually acts of mercy from God. When your personal plans fail, when a door slams in your face, or when an unexpected storm shakes your comfort zone, do not lose your peace. God often uses these intense moments to rescue us from our own foolish and destructive paths. Saul was completely confident in his mission, yet his self-made direction was leading him straight toward eternal ruin. God loved Saul too much to let him continue walking in spiritual darkness, so He violently shook his foundation. If you are experiencing a season of heavy frustration and broken expectations right now, be encouraged. Heaven is simply rewriting your schedule so that you can align with a superior purpose. Stop resisting the divine hand that is trying to redirect your steps. When we humble ourselves under God’s sovereign interruptions, we save ourselves from years of useless wandering. Embrace the unexpected shifts in your life today, because they are designed to break your reliance on human wisdom and position you to walk in supernatural victory.
- Out of the Dark and Into a Brand New Start
When Saul was down on the ground, blind and helpless, Jesus did not destroy him. Instead, Jesus offered him a fresh start and a brand-new direction. Saul went from being a proud persecutor of the church to a humble servant of God. He spent three days in darkness, praying and fasting, completely emptying himself of his old life. This is what true transformation looks like. God’s power does not just fix our old habits; it completely kills the old self and creates someone totally new. Grace means that your past mistakes do not have the final say over your future.
We see this same grace in the life of Peter. Peter denied Jesus three times on the night Jesus was arrested, feeling like a complete failure. But after the resurrection, Jesus met Peter by the sea, forgave him, and gave him a new command to feed His sheep. Saul experienced that very same beautiful grace. God changed his name from Saul to Paul, signifying that his old identity was gone forever. Being real means accepting that you cannot fix your own past, but you can allow God to give you a new path. God’s power is fully able to turn your biggest mess into your greatest message for His glory.
The world tells us that we are forever defined by our worst moments, but the kingdom of God operates on a totally different standard. When Jesus looks at you, He does not see the stains of your history; He sees the potential of your destiny through His blood. The three days Saul spent in total blindness were not a cruel punishment, but a necessary spiritual womb where his old identity was completely dissolved. God wants to do that same deep work inside your soul today. He wants to take your shame, your guilt, and your heavy regrets and bury them forever in the depths of His forgetfulness. You do not have to carry the heavy labels that your past, your family, or your failures have placed upon you. The moment you surrender your life to the lordship of Christ, you receive a completely clean slate and a royal inheritance. God specializes in taking broken vessels and turning them into masterpieces of His grace. Stand up in faith and accept the beautiful truth that your old life is completely dead and your brand-new chapter has officially begun under the smile of heaven.
- Saved to Serve and Powered to Bless
After Saul was healed by a disciple named Ananias, he did not just sit around and keep his testimony to himself. The Bible says he immediately began to preach about Jesus in the synagogues, declaring that Jesus is the Son of God. The very man who tried to destroy the church was now building it up. This is the ultimate goal of walking in God’s power. God does not change us just so we can feel comfortable. He fills us with His supernatural Holy Spirit so that we can become a bold witness and a massive blessing to the hurting world around us.
A wonderful example of this is the Samaritan woman at the well in John chapter four. After she had a real, honest conversation with Jesus about her messy life, she left her water jar behind and ran straight back to her town. She told everyone to come and meet the man who knew everything about her. Because of her bold testimony, many people in that town believed in Jesus. Saul did the exact same thing on a massive scale, traveling the world to share the gospel. When you are real with God, His power flows through you to break chains in the lives of others. You become a living proof that God is alive and saving souls.
True deliverance is never meant to stop with your own freedom; it is designed to become a catalyst for the deliverance of others. God did not rescue you from the pit of despair just so you could sit quietly on a church bench and enjoy your personal comfort. He gave you a powerful story so that your voice could become an instrument of hope to those who are currently sitting in darkness. When Saul began to preach, the people were completely shocked because they saw a walking miracle standing right before their eyes. Your transformed life is the most effective sermon you will ever preach to your family, your coworkers, and your community. Do not hide your testimony out of fear or false modesty. Share the great things the Lord has done for your soul with boldness and humility. When you open your mouth to talk about the goodness of God, you release a wave of supernatural courage that breaks the chains of doubt over other people’s lives. Let us step out as ambassadors of heaven, fully knowing that the same Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead is active inside us to change the world.
This Week Reflection
Take some quiet time this week to look deeply into your own heart and reflect on your walk with God. Ask yourself if you are truly being real with Him, or if you are just playing a religious game to look good in front of others. Think about the areas in your life where you are still trying to fight in your own limited strength instead of surrendering to God’s ultimate power. Saul thought he was doing great, but he was completely blind to his own spiritual condition until Jesus stopped him. Do not wait for a painful crisis to force you to examine your life. Look at your daily habits, your thoughts, and how you treat the people around you. Are you allowing the Holy Spirit to guide your steps, or are you still holding onto the steering wheel of your life? Write down the things that you know you have been hiding from God. Remember that He already knows everything about you, and He is simply waiting for you to be honest with Him. Real growth always begins with absolute honesty. When you admit your weakness, you open up the floor for God’s power to come in and lift you up. Use this week to lay down your heavy burdens, stop pretending to be strong, and let the peace of God wash over your mind. He loves you too much to leave you the way you are today.
Deliverance Session
Right now, we are entering into a sacred time of deliverance because God wants to break every heavy chain in this room. Many of us are carrying heavy spiritual chains that keep us from walking in the true power of God. You might be bound by deep fear, hidden shame, old unforgiveness, or habits that you just cannot seem to break on your own. Saul was bound by religious pride and hatred, but the presence of Jesus broke those invisible chains instantly. Today, that same saving power of Jesus Christ is right here in this place to set you completely free. You do not have to carry that old garbage anymore. Deliverance begins the moment you decide to be completely real about your secret struggles and call out to Jesus for help. Lift up your hands right now and speak directly to those areas of darkness in your life. In the mighty name of Jesus, we command every spirit of fear, every addiction, and every generational curse to leave your life right now. God did not give you a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind. Receive your total freedom today. Let the fire of the Holy Spirit burn away every weight that has been holding you back from your destiny. Walk out of your old spiritual prison and step boldly into the bright light of God’s amazing grace. You are fully delivered, and you are free indeed.
Altar Call
The altar is open right now, and this is your special moment to step forward and meet with God. If you have never given your life to Jesus, or if you know you have wandered far away from Him, Jesus is calling your name today. Do not look at the person sitting next to you; this moment is strictly between you and your Savior. Saul had to fall to the ground and surrender his whole life, and today God is asking you to surrender your heart to Him. Coming to the altar is a beautiful way of saying, “Lord, I am being real today. I need your help, and I cannot do this life alone anymore.” There is absolutely no judgment here, only open arms and deep love from a Father who cares for you. If you want to experience the real power of God and start a brand-new journey today, step out of your seat right now and come to the front. Bring your hurts, your sins, and your broken pieces to the feet of Jesus. He is ready to wash you clean, forgive your past, and give you a beautiful new identity as a child of the Living God. Today is the day of salvation for your soul. Do not walk out of this building the same way you came in. Step out in faith, walk down this aisle, and let the real transformation of your life begin right now.
Challenging Session
As we prepare to leave this place today, I want to challenge your heart to live out this message in the coming week. Do not leave the word of God behind at the church doors. Saul went out and immediately began to change his world, and God is challenging you to do the exact same thing. It is time to step out of your comfortable routine and start walking boldly in the power of the Holy Spirit. I challenge you to speak to that family member who does not know Jesus.
I challenge you to pray for that sick friend with real faith, believing that God will heal them. Being real means that we do not just talk about God’s power on Sunday; we actually demonstrate His love on Monday, Tuesday, and every single day of the week. The world is full of hurting people who are tired of empty religion. They are desperately looking for something real, and you carry the light of Jesus inside of you. Stop letting fear and insecurity tell you that you are not good enough or ready enough. God does not call the qualified; He qualifies the ones He calls. Step up, speak up, and be a bold witness for Christ in your workplace, your school, and your neighborhood. Let your life be a bright light that points others to the cross. Go out and change your world in the mighty name of Jesus.
Closing Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father, we thank you so much for your powerful word today. We thank you for the story of Saul and for showing us that your grace can reach anyone, no matter how lost they are. Lord, we come to you today just as we are. We lay down all of our pride, all of our masks, and all of our empty religious habits. We want to be completely real with you from this moment forward. Forgive us for the times we tried to live in our own human strength instead of relying on your supernatural power. Holy Spirit, we ask you to fill us afresh right now. Give us the same boldness that you gave to Paul so that we can share your love with everyone we meet.
We pray for every person who made a decision at the altar today. Protect their hearts, strengthen their faith, and guide their steps in this new direction. Break every remaining chain of fear, sin, and doubt in our lives. We choose to walk out of this place today in your divine power, ready to be a great blessing to our families and our communities. Let your peace guard our minds throughout this coming week. We love you, Lord, and we give you all the praise, all the honor, and all the glory for the wonderful things you are doing in our lives. We pray all these things in the mighty and matchless name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen.
God bless abundantly.
