SERMON: Month of Walk in Victory

3 August 2025

Introduction

“With your help I can attack a troop of soldiers. With the help of my God I can climb over a wall” (Psalm 18:29)

Today marks a new month—our Month to Walk in Victory. Life brings battles, obstacles, and discouragements, yet we are reminded by the psalmist that victory is not found in our strength, but by God’s power. David’s words, inspired by his experiences of God’s deliverance, invite us to trust that victory is not an event, but a daily experience empowered by our relationship with the Lord. As we start this month, let’s commit together to steps that lead us to walk in God’s victory: through prayer, setting goals, studying the Word, and walking intimately with Him. This journey isn’t about living free from challenges, but about overcoming those challenges through the God who strengthens and guides us.

Point 1: Prayer
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.” (Philippians 4:6)

Prayer is the language of victory. It anchors us to God’s presence and releases His power into our circumstances. When we pray, God listens and acts, realigning our hearts and minds with His purpose. Prayer is more than asking for things—it’s confessing our weaknesses and inviting the victorious power of Christ to sustain us. Jesus Himself prayed before making decisions and during trials. We must persistently seek the Lord, trusting that He hears even when answers seem delayed. Make time this month to pray intentionally: for guidance, for strength in weakness, and for unwavering faith. Victory is often won in the secret place of prayer, where God transforms despair into hope and impossibilities into testimonies. As we pray, we shift from self-reliance to God-dependence, positioning ourselves to experience true victory that changes our circumstances and our hearts.

Point 2: Set Goals
“Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and He will establish your plans.”  (Proverbs 16:3)

Walking in victory requires vision and purpose. Setting godly goals keeps us moving forward and helps us measure our growth. Without direction, we drift and lose focus. Reflect on your spiritual life, relationships, work, and habits this month—what victories do you want to see? Perhaps it’s overcoming a persistent habit, building deeper faith, or serving others more. Write these down; talk to God about them. Invite Him to shape your goals so they align with His will. Remember, God doesn’t reward passivity; He honors faith in action. As you set and pursue goals, expect God’s guidance—He promises to direct your steps. It may require discipline and sacrifice, but every step in obedience brings victory closer. Let your goals be rooted in trust that God will empower and guide you, turning ordinary steps into extraordinary testimonies of His faithfulness.

Point 3: Read the Bible
“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” (Psalm 119:105)

Strength to live victoriously comes from God’s Word. The Bible is more than a book of stories—it is a supernatural guide, offering wisdom, correction, and encouragement. When we read and meditate on the Scriptures, we gain insight to recognize and resist the enemy’s lies. The Word transforms our thinking, renews our hope, and fuels faith. Consistent Bible reading is essential for anyone desiring victory—it reveals God’s character and reminds us of His promises. Make a daily commitment this month: set aside time each day for reading and reflection. Allow the Word to speak to your heart, correct your course, and strengthen your resolve. When challenges come, let Scripture be your weapon. As you fill your mind with God’s truth, you will find yourself equipped to walk in victory over every circumstance life brings.

Point 4: Walk with God
“He has shown you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God?” (Micah 6:8)

The foundation of victory is a daily, ongoing relationship with God. To walk with God is to journey in step with Him—to seek His will, trust His timing, and rely on His strength. Victory is not simply about achieving outward success, but about transformation within. As you walk closely with God, He reveals areas for growth and gives grace for every challenge. Prioritize time for worship, thankfulness, and listening for God’s voice. Invite Him into every decision, no matter how small. Even when the journey is difficult, know that God is with you—guiding, sustaining, and encouraging you through it all. There is no victory without Him; every triumph we experience is the result of His presence and faithfulness. This month, make your walk with God your greatest pursuit, and watch Him lead you from strength to strength.

This Week’s Reflection.
As we begin the month focusing on walking in victory, reflect on how these four principles—prayer, setting goals, Bible reading, and walking with God—apply to your life. Where have you seen God’s victory recently? Where do you need breakthrough? Take time this week to write your prayers, set specific, meaningful goals, and dedicate space for daily Bible reading. Notice how your perspective shifts as you prioritize God’s presence. Are you facing walls like the psalmist? Remember, by God’s power, you can “leap over a wall.” Allow failures or setbacks to become stepping stones toward deeper dependence on God. Journal your struggles and the ways you’ve seen God sustain you in times past. Let your daily life become a testimony to those around you: someone who doesn’t just talk about victory but daily walks in it by staying connected to the Father. Celebrate small wins and bring challenges to God, knowing He is the source of every victory.

Self-Examination.
Be honest before God this week. What fears, habits, or doubts stand in the way of victory? Ask: “Do I consistently pray and seek God’s wisdom? Have I set goals that honor Him, or am I coasting through each day? Am I feeding on His Word or letting distractions rule my time? Do I walk in step with God, trusting Him in every area?” Confess any areas of struggle and invite the Holy Spirit to renew your heart. Victory starts with a surrendered life—let God reveal what needs to change so you can truly walk in His victory.

Conclusion.
Walking in victory is more than a one-time achievement; it is the fruit of a daily journey with God. As we embrace prayer, purpose-driven goals, the truth of God’s Word, and intimate fellowship with Him, our lives will display the reality of His power. Challenges are inevitable, but with God, every battle becomes a platform for His glory. Determine not to settle for defeat, fear, or mediocrity. Let this month be a turning point—a season when you refuse to be defined by your struggles, but by the victories God brings through your faith. The same God who enabled David to leap over walls is with you. Commit, as a church and as individuals, to walk in obedience and surrender. Every step in faith opens doors for God to do the impossible. Trust His strength, lean into His promises, and declare that this is your month of walking in victory. May your life shine with hope, courage, and the assurance that you are more than a conqueror in Christ Jesus.

Prayer.
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for this month, this opportunity to walk in Your victory. I surrender every struggle, every fear, and every weakness to You. Teach me to seek You through prayer, to set goals that honor You, and to feed daily on Your Word. Help me to walk closely with You, to trust in Your timing and Your plan. Where there are walls, give me faith to leap over them by Your power. Let my life reflect Your victory, not just in words but in action. Strengthen me to persevere when I feel weak, to rejoice even in trials, and to trust that every battle belongs to You. Fill me with courage, hope, and the assurance of Your unfailing love. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.

Have a blessed month in Jesus Christ.

God bless you abundantly.
