Introduction
Welcome, church family, to the final Sunday of May 2026. Throughout this beautiful month, our hearts have been anchored in the theme of God’s Favour. We have laughed, wept, and witnessed the goodness of God in our lives. Today, we are wrapping up this season of favour by diving into the ultimate key that unlocks every heavenly blessing: The Power in the Name of Jesus.
When we talk about God’s favour, we are not talking about luck or mere coincidence. Favour is a divine right given to us through a relationship. As Jesus prepared to leave His disciples, He gave them a supernatural legal document—His Name. He told them that they no longer had to approach the Father based on their own merits, strengths, or goodness. On our own, we have no right to stand before a Holy God. But because of the cross and the resurrection, Jesus has transferred His right to us.
When you pray in the name of Jesus, you are aligning yourself with His identity, His authority, and His mission. It is like using a master key that opens every door of breakthrough, healing, and restoration. This morning, we will explore how this powerful name activates the Holy Spirit, brings complete joy in times of grief, pours out unconditional love when the world is hostile, and anchors us in perfect peace. Get ready to experience a fresh wave of God’s favour today as we learn to operate in the authority of Jesus’ name.
- Access to the Father Through the Name
The name of Jesus is our spiritual badge of access. In the ancient world, to speak in the name of a king meant you carried the exact authority of that king. When Jesus tells us to ask the Father in His name, He is giving us His signature on a blank check of heavenly grace. We do not pray based on how good we have been this week; we pray based on how good Jesus is. This access bridges the gap between our human limitations and God’s infinite resources. It shifts our prayer life from a place of begging to a place of bold confidence.
A powerful biblical example of this authority is found in Acts 3:1–10, where Peter and John encounter a man lame from birth at the Beautiful Gate. The man was begging for money, looking for a temporary human solution. But Peter looked at him and said, “Silver or gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk.”Instantly, the man’s feet and ankles became strong, and he went into the temple courts walking, leaping, and praising God. Peter did not use his own power, holiness, or reputation to heal the man. He used the name of Jesus. The name acted as the direct conduit of God’s favour and healing power. When we understand this access, we stop looking at our problems through our own lack and start looking at them through the sufficiency of Jesus’ name.
- The Guidance and Conviction of the Holy Spirit
Jesus promised that when He departed, He would send the Counsellor, the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is our divine helper who ensures we remain aligned with the will of God so that we can pray effectively in Jesus’ name. One of the greatest signs of God’s favour is that He does not leave us to wander blindly. The Holy Spirit convicts us of sin, but He never condemns us. As Romans 8:1 reminds us, there is no condemnation for those in Christ Jesus. Instead, the Spirit gently points out where we have gone off track and guides us back into all truth, revealing who we truly are in God.
We see this beautifully illustrated in the life of the Apostle Peter in Galatians 2 and Acts 10. Peter struggled with old cultural prejudices regarding Gentile believers. Through a vision and the inner prompting of the Holy Spirit, Peter was convicted of his bias and guided into the truth that God does not show favoritism. The Holy Spirit did not destroy Peter; He corrected him so that Peter could carry the gospel effectively. When the Holy Spirit convicts us today, it is an act of deep love and favour. He strips away the lies of the enemy and the baggage of our past, freeing us to walk in righteousness and power.
- Joy and Love in the Midst of Opposition
Walking in God’s favour does not mean we will never face hardship, hatred, or sorrow. Jesus explicitly told His disciples that the world would hate them and that they would experience deep grief. However, He promised two supernatural antidotes: a joy that outlasts mourning and a divine love that overcomes animosity. The love of the Father is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Spirit, reminding us that we are deeply cherished even when our immediate circumstances look bleak or hostile. Our joy is not dependent on happy conditions; it is anchored in the reality of Christ’s victory.
Consider the biblical example of Paul and Silas in Acts 16. They were stripped, beaten, and thrown into the deepest, darkest dungeon for preaching the gospel. Humanly speaking, they had every reason to weep, complain, and feel abandoned. Yet, at midnight, instead of crying, they were praying and singing hymns of praise to God. They were wrapped in the love of Christ and filled with an inexplicable joy. Suddenly, a violent earthquake shook the foundations of the prison, the doors flew open, and everyone’s chains came loose. Their joy and praise in the midst of trouble unlocked a miracle. That is the power of God’s favour; it turns a prison into a place of praise and switches mourning into dancing.
- Perfect Peace and Overcoming the World
The climax of Jesus’ discourse in John 16 is His promise of peace. He states clearly that in this world we will have tribulation, distress, and frustration. But in the very same breath, He commands us to be of good cheer because He has overcome the world. The peace Jesus gives is not the absence of trouble; it is the presence of a Savior in the middle of the storm. When we invoke the name of Jesus over our anxieties, we are applying His finished work and absolute victory directly to our current chaos.
A classic example of this peace is found in Mark 4:35–41. A furious squall came up on the Sea of Galilee, and the waves broke over the boat so that it was nearly swamped. The disciples were terrified, crying out that they were going to drown. Meanwhile, Jesus was in the stern, sleeping peacefully on a cushion. When they woke Him, He stood up, rebuked the wind, and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Instantly the wind died down and it was completely calm. Jesus had peace on the inside, which allowed Him to manifest peace on the outside. When you carry the name of Jesus, you carry the Prince of Peace. No matter how violently the storms of life rage around your finances, your health, or your family, you can rest secure knowing that Jesus has already deprived the world of its power to harm you.
This Month Reflection
As we look back over this entire month of May 2026, we must take time to reflect on how God’s favour has manifested in our lives. Favour is not a passive concept; it is an active force that transforms our perspective and our reality. Take a moment to think about the prayers that were answered, the silent battles you won, and the moments where God stepped in just in time. Think also about the times you felt weak, yet His grace sustained you. Reflecting on God’s past goodness builds our faith for the future. It reminds us that the same God who showed us favour yesterday is already waiting for us in our tomorrows. Let this month’s lessons settle deep within your soul. Remember that you are highly favoured, deeply loved, and fully equipped because you carry the name of Jesus. Do not let the routine of daily life wash away the testimonies of this month. Keep speaking the name of Jesus over your health, your dreams, and your family, knowing that His favour is a lifelong covenant, not a temporary season.
Deliverance Session
Right now, we are entering into a sacred moment of deliverance. There are chains that need to be broken today. Some of you have been bound by fear, depression, generational curses, or chronic sickness. The enemy has tried to tell you that this is your permanent reality, but today we declare a higher truth. In the name of Jesus, every demonic stronghold must come down. We command every spirit of infirmity, anxiety, and lack to pack its bags and leave your life right now. The Bible says that at the name of Jesus, every knee must bow. We speak freedom over your mind, healing over your body, and breakthrough over your destiny. Let the fire of the Holy Spirit burn away every legal argument the enemy has used against you. We break the power of delay and frustration that has held you back from experiencing the fullness of God’s favour. Receive your total deliverance today. Walk out of your spiritual prison. You are set free, you are redeemed, and you are fully liberated by the ultimate authority of Jesus Christ.
Altar Call
If you are here today and you do not have a personal relationship with Jesus, or if you have drifted away and want to come back home, this moment is for you. True eternal life is knowing the only true God and Jesus Christ whom He sent. You cannot experience the true power of His name or the fullness of His favour until you belong to Him. Jesus is standing with open arms, waiting to welcome you. He doesn’t care about your past mistakes, your failures, or how far you have fallen. He cares about your future. He paid the price for your sins on the cross so that you could have direct access to the Father. If you want to surrender your life to Jesus, step out of your seat and come forward to the altar right now. Do not let fear or shame hold you back. Today is your day of salvation, and this is your moment of new beginnings. Step into His love, receive His forgiveness, and let Him rewrite your story today.
Challenging Session
As we prepare to leave this place and step into a new month, I want to challenge your faith. It is easy to shout and rejoice inside the church walls, but the real test happens when you step out into the world. I challenge you to stop speaking words of defeat, worry, and doubt over your life. When you face a mountain this week, do not complain to others about how big the mountain is. Instead, speak directly to that mountain in the name of Jesus. I challenge you to live like a person who is highly favoured by God. Walk with your head held high. Act with integrity, boldness, and love. When sickness tries to touch your body, answer it with the name of Jesus. When financial lack knocks on your door, declare the favour of God. Use the name of Jesus as your primary weapon and your constant shield. Go out and change your workplace, your school, and your home by demonstrating the love and power of Christ. You carry the greatest name in the universe; now go out and live like it.
Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father, we thank You so much for Your wonderful love. We thank You for this amazing month of May 2026 where we have felt Your sweet favour every single day. Thank You for giving us the most powerful name in the whole world, the name of Jesus. We are so glad that we do not have to pray in our own strength or goodness. We come to You today wrapped in the name of Jesus.
Lord, I pray for every person reading or hearing these words today. I ask that You lift every heavy heart. Please wipe away every tear of sadness and replace it with Your deep, beautiful joy. Fill our homes with Your perfect peace that passes all human understanding. When the world is loud and full of trouble, help us to stand strong and quiet, knowing that Jesus has already won the victory for us.
Holy Spirit, our sweet friend and helper, please guide us today. Show us the right way to walk. Whenever we start to go down a wrong path, gently speak to our hearts and bring us back to the truth. Help us to love others just like Jesus loves us. We pray against every sickness, every worry, and every chain today. By the authority of Jesus’ name, we declare that we are healed, we are free, and we are blessed. May our lives bring great honor and glory to Your holy name every single day. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
God bless you abundantly.
