THE GOD OF THE MOUNTAINS AND THE VALLEYS: WINGS OF VICTORY OVER EVERY ENEMY.

A Month of Prayer and Receiving Miracles

Main Bible Verse: “The Syrians said, ‘Yahweh is a god of the hills, but he is not a god of the valleys;’ therefore I will deliver all this great multitude into your hand, and you shall know that I am Yahweh.” 1 Kings 20:28 (WEB)

Today’s Focus: 1 Kings 20

Date: July 26, 2026

Introduction

Welcome, beloved family, to the final Sunday of July! Can you believe how fast this powerful month has gone by? Throughout this month, our hearts have been anchored on one glorious theme: “A Month of Prayer and Receiving Miracles.” Together, we have travelled through the book of 1 Kings. On the first Sunday, we saw God rule the hidden supply in a widow’s house. On the second Sunday, we saw God send public fire and heavy rain on Mount Carmel. Last week, we saw God gently whisper new life into Elijah’s exhausted, burned-out heart in a quiet cave.

Today, as we step into 1 Kings 20, God is taking us into the final dimension of our month of miracles. We are going to see how God steps in when an overwhelming enemy comes against you without warning. In this chapter, a proud, cruel king named Benhadad comes to attack God’s people with a massive army of thirty-two kings, horses, and chariots. He wanted to take away everything they owned—their gold, their silver, their families, and their dignity.

Many of you know what it feels like to be attacked when you are already feeling weak. You have been praying all month long, yet it feels like the enemy is trying to push you into a corner. You might be facing a financial battle, a health crisis, or a family struggle that looks far bigger than your human ability to handle. You might feel surrounded and outnumbered.

I have a heart-touching message of encouragement for you this morning: your battles do not surprise God! The same God who blessed you on the mountaintop of victory is standing right beside you in the deep valley of pressure. God is about to show up in your life as an unstoppable warrior. This last Sunday of July 2026 is your day of total turnaround. Get ready to watch the Almighty fight your battles, scatter your enemies, and hand you a complete, miraculous victory as we dive into 1 Kings 20.

Part 1: Refusing to Bow to the Demands of the Enemy (1 Kings 20:1-12)

In the opening twelve verses of 1 Kings 20, King Benhadad of Syria gathered his massive army and marched against Samaria. He sent messengers to King Ahab with a harsh, arrogant demand. He said, “Your silver and your gold are mine; your wives and your children are mine.” At first, Ahab was terrified and agreed to yield. But then Benhadad grew even bolder and sent a second message, demanding that his servants enter the palace and homes the next day to steal anything valuable they laid their eyes on.

Ahab called all the elders of the land together and explained the situation. The elders and all the people told him, “Don’t listen, and don’t consent.” When Ahab told Benhadad’s messengers that he would not grant this second cruel demand, Benhadad became furious. He boasted that his army was so huge that the dust of Samaria would not be enough to give each of his soldiers a single handful. But Ahab answered with great wisdom in 1 Kings 20:11, saying, “Don’t let him who puts on his armor brag like him who takes it off.” When Benhadad heard this message while drinking with his kings in their tents, he ordered his army to prepare for a full-scale assault against the city.

Look closely at this story, church. The enemy always starts with a subtle threat. He tries to intimidate you into handing over your peace, your joy, your family, and your spiritual confidence. The devil wants you to believe that you have no choice but to surrender to lack, sickness, and failure. He loves to brag about how big his weapons are and how easy it will be to crush your life.

But today, God is putting a divine courage inside your heart! You must learn to stand your ground and say, “No! I will not give up my family. I will not hand over my health. I will not give away my peace!” Do not let the enemy scare you with his big words or loud threats. The devil can boast all he wants, but he does not hold the final key to your destiny. When you take a firm stand in prayer and refuse to bow to fear, God steps into the ring on your behalf. Refuse to surrender today, because the God of your salvation is preparing to take off the enemy’s armor and hand you a glorious victory!

Part 2: Unexpected Victory by Unlikely Instruments (1 Kings 20:13-21)

While the vast army of Syria was preparing to destroy the city, a prophet of God walked up to King Ahab. The prophet brought a surprising message directly from heaven in 1 Kings 20:13“Yahweh says, ‘Have you seen all this great multitude? Behold, I will deliver it into your hand today; and you shall know that I am Yahweh.’” Ahab asked, “By whom?” The prophet replied that God would use the young, inexperienced officers of the provincial commanders—a small group of only 232 young men, supported by 7,000 soldiers! Ahab then asked, “Who shall start the battle?” The prophet answered, “You.”

At noon, while Benhadad and his thirty-two allied kings were getting completely drunk in their tents, these 232 young men marched out of the city gates. When Benhadad was told that men were coming out from Samaria, he carelessly ordered his men to take them alive, whether they came for peace or for war. But the young officers marched out, and every single one of them struck down his opponent!

Panic seized the Syrian camp. The great Syrian army turned and fled, with Israel pursuing them. King Benhadad barely escaped on a horse with some of his cavalry. The Bible records that King Ahab marched out, struck the horses and chariots, and defeated the Syrians with a massive, unexpected slaughter.

This part of the story shows us the beauty of God’s grace and power. Israel did not deserve this victory; Ahab was not a righteous king. Yet God stepped in simply to reveal His mercy and show that He alone is Yahweh! God does not need a massive, rich, or powerful army to rescue you. He loves to use small, simple, and unlikely instruments to bring down huge problems.

You might look at your life today and feel like you have very little strength left. You might say, “Pastor, my faith feels small, my money is low, and my resources are limited.” But when God puts His divine power inside your small resources, giant problems tumble down! Do not wait for circumstances to look perfect before you step out in faith. When God says move, march forward with what you have. He is taking your small efforts, your simple prayers, and your quiet faith, and turning them into an unstoppable force that will rout every enemy standing against your household!

Part 3: The God of the Hills and the Valleys (1 Kings 20:22-34)

After that humiliating defeat, the advisers of the king of Syria came to him with a dangerous, false theory. They told him that the gods of Israel were gods of the hills, which was why they were too strong on the mountains. They suggested fighting Israel in the open plains and valleys instead, claiming they would easily win there. They rebuilt their army, replacing the kings with experienced commanders, and gathered a massive force equal to the one they had lost.

The next spring, Benhadad marched to Aphek to fight Israel. The Israeli army camped opposite them like two small flocks of goats, while the Syrian forces completely covered the countryside. Then a man of God came to the king of Israel and delivered this timeless message in 1 Kings 20:28“Yahweh says, ‘Because the Syrians have said, “Yahweh is a god of the hills, but he is not a god of the valleys;” therefore I will deliver all this great multitude into your hand, and you shall know that I am Yahweh.’”

For seven days the two armies faced each other, and on the seventh day the battle began. In a single day, the Israelites struck down 100,000 Syrian foot soldiers! The rest fled into the city of Aphek, where a massive wall fell on 27,000 remaining soldiers. Benhadad fled into an inner room, put on sackcloth, and begged Ahab for his life. Ahab made a covenant with him and let him go free.

This passage contains one of the greatest truths in the entire Bible. The world thinks that God can only help you when things are going great—when you are on the mountaintop of health, success, and joy. The enemy whispers, “God was with you when times were easy, but now that you are down in a deep valley of pain, sickness, or financial distress, God cannot reach you.”

That is a complete lie from the pit of hell! Our God is not just the God of your highest mountaintops; He is the absolute Master of your deepest, darkest valleys! He sees every tear you cry when you are low. He hears every quiet prayer you pray when you feel overwhelmed. When you are down in the valley, God does not abandon you—He draws closer! He steps right into your valley to prove His power, crush the arrogant forces of darkness, and turn your lowest point into your greatest victory.

Part 4: Holding Fast to the Unfolding Victory (1 Kings 20:35-43)

In the final section of 1 Kings 20, a prophet from the sons of the prophets was instructed by the word of the Lord to have his companion strike him. When the man refused, the prophet told him that a lion would kill him for disobeying Yahweh’s command, and it happened immediately. The prophet then found another man, who struck and wounded him. With his face disguised with a headband over his eyes, the prophet waited by the road for King Ahab to pass by.

As the king passed, the prophet called out, pretending to be a soldier who had been placed in charge of a prisoner during the battle. He said, “Your servant went out into the middle of the battle, and a man brought a captive to me and said, ‘Guard this man! If he is missing, your life shall be for his life, or you shall pay a talent of silver.’ But while your servant was busy here and there, the prisoner escaped.”

King Ahab looked at him and said, “So shall your judgment be; you have decided it yourself.” The prophet quickly pulled the headband away from his eyes, and Ahab recognized him as one of the prophets. The prophet declared in 1 Kings 20:42“Yahweh says, ‘Because you have let go out of your hand the man whom I had devoted to destruction, therefore your life shall go for his life, and your people for his people.’” Ahab went home to Samaria sullen and angry because he had compromised on the full victory God gave him.

This final part brings a solemn, crucial spiritual warning for our lives. When God gives you a victory, you must hold onto it completely and make no compromise with the enemy. God handed Ahab total victory over a wicked enemy who wanted to destroy his family, but Ahab got careless, compromised, and let the enemy walk free.

In this season of prayer and miracles, do not leave room for compromise. When God delivers you from bad habits, toxic fear, or destructive patterns, do not play around with them anymore! Do not let the enemy slide back into your life through the back door of spiritual carelessness. Hold fast to your healing, hold fast to your peace, and guard your family through persistent prayer. God has given you a complete victory this month—do not settle for a half-hearted breakthrough. Finish strong, stand firm on God’s Word, and guard the precious miracles He has placed in your hands!

Challenging Session

Church, as we stand here on this last Sunday of July, this powerful chapter brings a serious spiritual challenge to every single heart in this sanctuary. We have spent an entire month talking about prayer and receiving miracles. We have celebrated God’s provision, God’s fire, God’s gentle touch, and God’s mighty victory in battle. But now, God is asking you a deep question: What are you going to do with the victories He has handed you?

Many believers are like King Ahab in the first part of this chapter—quick to feel intimidated when the enemy makes loud demands. Or worse, they are like Ahab at the end of the chapter—careless and quick to compromise after God gives them a miracle. God is challenging you today to rise up in true spiritual discipline. Stop letting the devil intimidate you with his threats of failure, disease, and financial doom.

You cannot afford to be spiritually lazy. Notice that while Benhadad and his kings were getting drunk in their tents, God was preparing young men to march out and win the war. Prayer requires vigilance, courage, and action! I challenge you today to shake off every spirit of complacency. Do not let the blessings of this month cause you to put down your prayer altar.

If you want to see your miracles last throughout the rest of this year, you must remain steadfast in prayer. Stand up against every intimidation of the enemy. Refuse to compromise with sin or fear. When God hands you a victory over depression, lack, or sickness, guard it with everything inside you! Step out of your comfort zone, march out into the field with confidence, and let the world know that your God is the supreme King of both the mountains and the valleys!

Altar Call Session

We have come to the most important altar call of this entire month. All through July, God has been revealing His heart to us. He has shown us that He cares about our daily food, our public battles, our quiet emotional pain, and our fierce spiritual warfare. Right now, Jesus is standing at this altar, extending His loving arms to anyone who is ready to surrender their life to Him.

Perhaps you are here today and you feel like you are standing deep in a dark, painful valley. You have been fighting battles on every side—in your mind, in your health, or in your home—and you are completely exhausted. You have been trying to fight the fierce army of life in your own limited human strength, and you realize today that you cannot make it alone. Jesus is saying to you right now, “Bring your valley to Me. I am the God of the valley, and I will give you rest and victory.”

Or maybe you have never truly accepted Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior. You have been living away from God, walking in your own ways, and carrying the heavy burden of your sins. The greatest miracle you can ever experience is not just winning an earthly battle; it is having your name written in the Lamb’s Book of Life and receiving eternal salvation.

If you want Jesus to take control of your battles today, if you want to leave your dark valley behind, or if you want to surrender your heart to Him for the very first time on this last Sunday of July, I want you to step out right now. Walk down this aisle and come to the front of this altar. Do not hesitate. Step forward now and receive the gift of complete salvation, peace, and eternal life!

Deliverance Session

Lift your hands high all across this sanctuary as we enter into this powerful time of total deliverance! In the mighty and majestic name of Jesus, we stand on the absolute authority of God’s Word and command every demonic battle fighting your life to be crushed right now!

We speak divine judgment against every arrogant spirit of Benhadad that has come to steal your peace, your health, your joy, and your family’s future. Every generational force of poverty, failure, and spiritual oppression that has followed you into this month—we command it to be scattered and destroyed by the fire of the Holy Spirit this very moment!

We speak absolute deliverance over your mind. Every spirit of chronic fear, heavy anxiety, and deep depression that tells you that you will perish in the valley—pack your bags and leave right now in Jesus’ name! We command total healing into your physical body. From the top of your head to the soles of your feet, let every disease, pain, and infirmity be uprooted right now. We decree that you are leaving this last Sunday of July completely free, victorious, and delivered from every snare of the enemy. The chains are broken, the enemy is defeated, and the victory of the Lord is yours forever!
