Introduction: Leaving the Mud Behind

Welcome to the second Sunday of September! Today, September 13, 2026, we gather with hearts overflowing with hope as we continue marching through this glorious Month of God’s Divine Acceleration. Last Sunday, we stood in awe before the Word in Amos 9:13 “‘Behold, the days come,’ says Yahweh, ‘that the plowman shall overtake the reaper, and the crusher of grapes him who sows seed; and sweet wine will drip from the mountains, and flow from the hills.’” , where God promised that the plowman would overtake the reaper, and sweet wine would drip from barren mountains. We learned that when heaven steps into human time, God collapses the waiting gap and turns years of quiet sorrow into a sudden, overflowing harvest. Today, we build on that firm foundation with an inspiring, life-changing message: “Outrunning the Chariots of Delay.”

Have you ever looked at your life and felt hopelessly behind? You look around and see others who started out with more money, more human connections, better education, and powerful family backing. In the natural realm, they are riding in fast, golden chariots pulled by strong horses, speeding ahead while you feel like you are walking on foot through deep, sticky mud. Perhaps you have faced years of unexpected delays—delays in your career, delays in your marriage, delays in having children, or long seasons of illness that drained your precious time. You might whisper in the quiet of the night, “Lord, how can I ever catch up? The gap is too wide, and the chariots of this world are too fast for me.”

If that has been the quiet cry of your tired heart, I bring you sweet comfort and mighty good news from the Word of God today! In 1 Kings 18:46, Elijah was an ordinary prophet standing on foot in the pouring rain, while King Ahab rode in a royal chariot driven by the strongest horses in the kingdom. Yet, the Bible records a miracle of supernatural speed: Elijah outran the royal chariot all the way to Jezreel! When the mighty hand of God comes upon your life, natural rules are suspended, human limitations are broken, and you will outrun every chariot of delay that once mocked your slow pace!

Part 1: When Natural Advantages Mean Nothing

To understand how Elijah outran Ahab’s royal chariot, we must look at what took place right before this miraculous race. Israel had suffered under three and a half long years of devastating drought and crushing famine. There was no water, no harvest, and no relief in sight. Yet, on the top of Mount Carmel, Elijah bowed his face between his knees and persisted in prayer until a tiny cloud the size of a man’s hand appeared over the horizon. Elijah turned to King Ahab and warned him, “Hurry, get in your chariot and go down before the rain stops you!” The sky turned black with heavy clouds, the wind began to howl, and a torrential downpour flooded the valley.

King Ahab had every natural advantage that wealth, royalty, and power could provide. His royal chariot was crafted from lightweight wood and strong metal, pulled by the most muscular, well-trained horses in the land. Ahab had a massive head start down the road to Jezreel, nearly twenty miles away. In human terms, there was absolutely no way an ordinary man running barefoot through pouring rain and thick mud could ever catch up with, let alone overtake, a galloping royal chariot.

This is the exact picture of human life. The world tells us that if you do not have wealth, powerful family connections, or an early start in life, you are destined to lose the race. You may feel that the “chariots of delay”—chariots of financial lack, sickness, legal troubles, or family background—have left you far behind in the dust. You see your classmates, colleagues, or peers buying homes, advancing in business, and stepping into success while you feel stuck on foot.

But God wants you to know today that your natural starting point does not determine your supernatural finish line! The race of faith is not decided by horsepower; it is decided by the power of the Holy Spirit. When God decides to accelerate a humble believer, He does not need a chariot, a royal title, or human favor. God takes joy in taking the underdog, the forgotten one, and the one on foot to show forth His mighty glory. Do not look at the chariots that passed you yesterday; keep your eyes on the God who is about to supercharge your steps today!

Part 2: The Mighty Hand of the Lord

The secret of Elijah’s supernatural speed is revealed in the very first phrase of 1 Kings 18:46: “Yahweh’s hand was on Elijah.” The prophet did not suddenly develop superhuman athletic stamina on his own. He was an older man who had just endured an exhausting day of intense spiritual warfare on Mount Carmel and prayed through seven agonizing cycles of intercession. Physically, he was completely drained. But when the hand of the Lord came upon him, heavenly energy invaded his earthly weakness!

What is the hand of the Lord? In Scripture, the hand of God represents His divine presence, His limitless authority, and His supernatural favor. When the hand of God touches an ordinary situation, natural limitations immediately bow down. When God’s hand touched Samson, he tore open a lion with his bare hands. When God’s hand touched Nehemiah, broken city walls that lay in ruins for over a century were completely rebuilt in just fifty-two days! And when the hand of God rested upon Elijah, an ordinary prophet on foot became faster than the swiftest desert horses.

You need to settle this deep within your spirit: you cannot outrun the chariots of delay in your own weak human energy. If you try to catch up by working endless extra hours until your body breaks, by worrying through sleepless nights, or by manipulating situations through human cunning, you will collapse under the weight of exhaustion. Human sweat can never produce divine speed. What you need in this season is not greater human effort; you need the mighty hand of the Almighty God resting upon your life!

When God’s hand comes upon your finances, He gives you wisdom and unexpected provision that clears years of debt in a single season. When His hand rests upon your health, His healing virtue restores damaged tissues and revives your strength. When His hand rests upon your career or business, He opens doors of favor that human credentials could never unlock. Today, stop trying to run on human strength. Lift up your empty hands to heaven and ask the Father to place His supernatural hand upon you!

Part 3: Tucking in Your Cloak to Run

Notice the practical action Elijah took before he began to run: “He tucked his cloak into his belt.” In Bible times, men wore long, flowing tunics that reached down to their ankles. These robes were comfortable for walking or resting, but if a person tried to sprint in them, the loose fabric would tangle around their knees and cause them to trip and fall face-first into the mud. So, before taking a single step, Elijah gathered up the loose fabric, tied it tightly around his waist with his belt, and prepared his legs to run without hindrance.

This speaks directly to our spiritual condition. The Apostle Paul echoed this exact principle in Hebrews 12:1: “Let’s also lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let’s run with perseverance the race that is set before us.” You cannot run at the speed of God’s divine acceleration if your feet are tangled up in the heavy robes of worldly compromise, hidden sins, and emotional baggage!

What loose robes are tangling up your feet today? Is it the robe of unforgiveness and old bitterness toward people who mistreated you years ago? Is it the robe of constant worry, overthinking, and anxiety about the future? Is it secret habits, negative speaking, or comparing yourself with others on social media? Carrying offenses, jealousy, and guilt will weigh your soul down and cause you to stumble every time you try to move forward.

To tuck in your cloak means making a firm, holy decision to strip away everything that slows you down. It means forgiving those who hurt you—not because they deserve it, but because you cannot afford to carry their offense into your season of acceleration! It means dropping the fear of failure and casting away doubts. When you tuck in your spiritual cloak by purifying your heart, fixing your eyes on Jesus, and walking in pure obedience, you become light on your feet. Nothing can trip you up when your heart is anchored in holiness!

Part 4: Overtaking the Chariots at the Gate

The Bible tells us that Elijah ran and “ran ahead of Ahab to the entrance of Jezreel.” Think of the sheer wonder and shock of that moment! King Ahab was sitting inside his royal chariot, gripping the reins, the mud splashing beneath the wheels, the horses galloping at maximum speed through the pouring rain. Ahab probably thought, “I will reach my palace in Jezreel, warm myself by the fire, and leave Elijah behind in the desert.”

Suddenly, out in the stormy twilight, Ahab heard the rhythmic splash of footsteps coming up beside him. He looked out into the rain, and there was Elijah—an ordinary prophet on foot—passing the royal chariot, running ahead with effortless heavenly power, and arriving at the city gates of Jezreel first! What a miraculous testimony of God’s vindication and supernatural triumph!

That is what God is about to do in your life during this Month of God’s Divine Acceleration. The situations, limitations, and enemies that thought they had permanently left you behind are about to watch you overtake them by the grace of God! God is causing you to outrun the chariot of generational poverty. He is causing you to outrun the chariot of chronic delay and missed opportunities. Where people wrote you off and said you would never amount to anything, God’s favor will bring you to your destination first.

Furthermore, Elijah did not run just for the sake of showing off; he ran ahead to the entrance of Jezreel to stand as a faithful witness of God’s supremacy. When God accelerates your life, He does it so that your testimony will bring glory to His holy name! People will look at your restored marriage, your healed body, your flourishing children, and your supernatural breakthrough, and they will know beyond a shadow of a doubt that no human hand could have done it. It was the hand of the Lord that lifted your feet and caused you to outrun the swiftest chariots!

A Call to Action: Break Agreement with Delay!

Now that you have seen how Elijah outran the royal chariot by the hand of the Lord, what is your spiritual posture today? You cannot experience divine acceleration while sitting down in self-pity, mourning over the years you have lost, or complaining about how fast everyone else is moving!

I challenge you today to make a clean break from a defeatist mindset. Stop looking at your watch, stop counting your age in despair, and stop measuring your destiny by human timelines. God is not bound by your past delays! If God could take a tired prophet on foot and make him faster than royal horses, He can take your simple life and propel you into your breakthrough faster than you ever dreamed possible.

Tuck in your cloak today! Make a decision right now to let go of every grudge, lay down every secret compromise, and stop entertaining negative, doubt-filled conversations. Wake up each morning, lift your hands to heaven, and declare: “The hand of the Lord is upon my life! I will not be delayed, I will not be defeated, and I will outrun every obstacle by the power of the Holy Spirit!” Start preparing your mind, your prayers, and your actions for supernatural speed, because God is clearing the track for your victory!

Altar Call: The Greatest Acceleration of All

Before you can experience God’s hand accelerating your earthly journey, you must first allow His hand to rescue your eternal soul. The most glorious acceleration in the entire universe happens the very second an individual turns from sin and receives the gift of salvation through Jesus Christ. In that single moment, you are transferred from spiritual death into everlasting life!

You may be reading or listening to this sermon today and feeling deeply convicted. You know that you have been trying to run the race of life on your own human strength, chasing after the empty promises of this world, and you are exhausted. Jesus Christ loves you so much. He walked the dusty road to Calvary, carried your cross, shed His holy blood for your sins, and rose victoriously from the dead to give you a brand-new beginning.

Do not stay trapped in the mud of sin, guilt, and condemnation. Jesus is standing with His arms wide open today, ready to place His loving hand upon you. If you want to surrender your life to Jesus Christ or rededicate your heart to Him today, pray this prayer sincerely from your heart right now:

“Lord Jesus, I come to You today just as I am. I confess that I have sinned against You and tried to run life on my own. I believe You died on the cross for my sins and rose again from the dead. Forgive all my sins, wash my heart clean with Your precious blood, and make me a new creation. I surrender my life, my heart, and my future completely to You. Fill me with Your Holy Spirit and let Your mighty hand guide me into Your divine purpose. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”

If you prayed that prayer sincerely, heaven is rejoicing with you today! Your sins are forgiven, your soul is secure, and you are ready to run the race of faith with divine power!

Deliverance Session: Shattering the Demonic Chariots

In the mighty, matchless, and holy name of Jesus Christ, we stand in our spiritual authority as believers and break every demonic chain of delay, stagnation, and backwardness over your life today! We command every satanic force, witchcraft covenant, and demonic chariot assigned to hinder your progress, steal your time, and hold you back in the mud of failure to be shattered by the consuming fire of the Holy Spirit!

We rebuke and destroy every spirit of near-success syndrome, missed opportunities, circular wandering, and generational limitation. Whatever curse has spoken that you will always be behind your peers is broken into pieces right now by the precious blood of the Lamb!

By faith, we call down the mighty hand of the Lord upon your life, your home, your children, and your work. Just as the hand of God came upon Elijah, we decree that supernatural speed, divine strength, and unshakeable stamina are released into your spirit. Every demonic obstacle on your path is removed, every locked gate is swung wide open, and every chariot of delay is overthrown. You are free, you are empowered, and you shall outrun every limitation to arrive safely at your God-given destiny in Jesus’ mighty name!

Conclusion: Stepping into Supernatural Momentum

I lift up every precious brother, sister, and family receiving this message. Father, stretch out Your loving, mighty hand and let it rest upon each one of them right now. Where they have felt tired, hopeless, or left behind by the chariots of this world, breathe Your supernatural strength into their bodies, minds, and spirits.

Accelerate their health and heal every sickness; accelerate their financial breakthroughs and cancel every debt; accelerate their spiritual growth and draw them closer to Your heart. Protect them and their children from all harm, danger, and demonic delay. Give them the wisdom to tuck in their cloaks and run with pure, undivided hearts.
