Midweek Service Sermon

Introduction

Tonight, we step into a sacred place of mercy. Have you ever felt the cold weight of someone else’s judgment? Have you ever felt exposed, with every flaw, mistake, and secret failure dragged out into the harsh light for the world to see? In John chapter 8, a woman was brought into the presence of Jesus. She was trembling, terrified, and surrounded by a circle of angry accusers. In their hands were heavy stones; in their eyes was pure condemnation. Nobody in that crowd cared about her broken heart. Nobody asked what led her to that terrible place, how lonely she had been, or how desperately she needed help. They only wanted to see her destroyed.

Every one of us has been in her shoes in some way. We live in a world that loves to pick up stones. People are so quick to criticize our falls, cancel our names, point fingers at our weaknesses, and write us off forever. But into that circle of self-righteous rage, Jesus spoke words that still echo down through the ages: “He who is without sin among you, let him throw a stone at her first.”

Look at what happened. One by one, from the oldest to the youngest, their fingers unclenched. The stones hit the dirt with a thud until only Jesus and the broken woman were left standing in that sacred circle.

We are in the Month of God’s Open Heavens. An open heaven does not rain down judgment, cruelty, or destruction upon the repentant soul. An open heaven pours down tender mercy, divine pardon, and restorative love. God is not looking for a rock to throw at your head; He is looking for a broken heart to wrap His arms around. Tonight, whatever heavy burden you carried into this house, know that you are safe in the presence of Jesus. The accusers must leave, and the stones must fall.

1. The Heavy Stones of Human Judgment

It hurts deeply when the people around you act as though they have never made a mistake in their lives. We live in a world that thrives on gossip, whisper campaigns, and holding grudges. People love to build pedestals for themselves by tearing other people down. They will watch you stumble and instead of reaching out a hand to lift you up, they reach down for a stone to crush you further. That kind of human cruelty leaves invisible bruises on the soul that take years to heal.

You may have spent years dodging the stones of family members who never forgave you, friends who turned their backs on you, or religious people who showed you zero mercy. When people throw stones of condemnation, it makes you want to hide in the dark. It makes you feel unlovable, dirty, and forever marked by your lowest moment.

Remember tonight that the people throwing stones are just as flawed, fragile, and sinful as you are. Their hands are not clean; their hearts are not pure. Under God’s open heavens, the opinions of stone-throwers hold no eternal weight. Jesus silenced the Pharisees with one sentence of truth, and He is silencing the voice of every human critic speaking against your life right now.

2. Dropping the Stones We Hold Against Ourselves

Sometimes the heaviest stones in the room are not in other people’s hands; they are in our own. Many of us are our own harshest critics. We look into the mirror and throw stones of self-hatred, guilt, and bitter condemnation. We replay our worst choices, our failed relationships, our broken promises, and our private compromises. We say to ourselves, “How could you have been so foolish? God can never use someone as damaged as you.”

Living under the weight of self-condemnation is a slow, agonizing prison. It robs you of peace, steals your joy, and closes your heart to God’s blessings. You walk through life anticipating punishment, believing every hardship is God paying you back for what you did years ago.

Jesus did not come to condemn you; He came that you might have life, and have it abundantly. If the King of Glory, the only One who is completely holy, refuses to throw a stone at you, why are you still stoning yourself? Drop the rocks of guilt. Drop the stones of self-punishment. Let your hands open and receive the clean slate that Jesus purchased for you with His own precious blood on the cross.

3. Dropping the Stones We Hold Against Others

Mercy is not a one-way street; it is a river that must flow through us to reach others. When we truly understand how much God has forgiven us, it changes how our hands respond to the flaws of our neighbors. It is so easy to nurse bitterness, hold grudges, and secretly want payback when someone hurts us, betrays our trust, or speaks against us. Our fallen human nature wants to keep a stone tucked away in our pocket, waiting for the right moment to strike back.

Unforgiveness is like drinking poison and waiting for the other person to die. When you hold stones of bitterness against someone else, you tie yourself to your own pain. You keep the heaven over your heart clouded with resentment.

Jesus calls us under this open heaven to let the stones fall from our hands. Forgiving someone does not mean what they did was right; it means you trust God to be the Judge while you choose to walk in peace. When you drop your stone, you set a captive free, and you realize that the captive was you all along. Choose mercy over vengeance. Choose love over hate. Let the healing begin by letting go of the offenses you have harbored for far too long.

4. Standing Alone with Jesus

After every accuser had walked away, John tells us that Jesus straightened up and looked at the woman. Can you imagine the terror in her heart transforming into unspeakable relief? The crowd was gone. The stones were lying useless in the dust. She was left alone with the only One who actually had the right to condemn her, because He alone was without sin. Yet instead of wrath, she heard the gentlest words ever spoken: “Neither do I condemn you; go and sin no more.”

That is the sacred space God has brought you into tonight. Forget about the crowd. Forget about what culture says, what social media shouts, or what your relatives repeat. In this quiet midweek hour, it is just you and Jesus. He does not point out your shame to humiliate you; He covers your nakedness with His robe of righteousness.

Under an open heaven, Christ gives you a fresh start. He does not send you away into your old misery; He sends you forward into freedom. His mercy forgives your past, and His grace empowers your future. You are no longer marked by your sin; you are marked by His amazing love. You are stepping out of the circle of condemnation and into the sanctuary of divine restoration.

The Challenge Session

Tonight, I challenge you to make a deliberate, spiritual decision: let the stones drop from your hands once and for all. Take an honest look inside your heart right now. Who are you still holding a stone against? Is it an ex-partner who wounded you? Is it a parent who failed to protect you? Is it a friend who spoke behind your back? Or is the person you need to forgive the one staring back at you in the mirror?

Carrying stones makes your hands too full to receive the blessings of an open heaven. You cannot lift hands of pure worship while your fists are tightly clutched around anger, bitterness, and regret. Starting today, make up your mind to release every grudge. Every time an old memory tries to stir up hatred, whisper, “Lord, I release them because You released me.”

I challenge you also to stop participating in the stone-throwing culture around you. When people start gossiping or tearing down a brother or sister who fell, refuse to join the mob. Be the courageous voice that brings grace. Be the one who stands between the wounded and the stones. Let our church and our homes be safe harbors where broken souls can find healing instead of condemnation. Walk in the freedom of a clean heart, letting God’s mercy shine through every word you speak.

Prayer

Precious Jesus, my Savior and my Defender, I come before You tonight with a humble and grateful heart.

Thank You that when the world wanted to condemn me, You stood up for me. Thank You for not treating me as my sins deserve, but washing me clean with Your unfailing mercy. Lord, tonight I drop every stone I have been holding. I drop the stones of self-hate, guilt, and shame. I drop the stones of bitterness, anger, and resentment against those who hurt me.

Wash my heart clean from all offense. When memories of my past mistakes try to torment me, remind me that under this open heaven, there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. Fill me with Your Holy Spirit so that I can show compassion to the hurting and mercy to the fallen. Thank You for Your gentle voice that whispers, “Go and sin no more.” I walk forward in Your freedom, Your joy, and Your unfailing grace. In Jesus’ loving name, Amen.

Altar Call

If you are here tonight and you feel battered by guilt, shame, and the harsh judgments of life, this altar is open for you. Maybe you have been hiding from God because you felt too dirty, too broken, or too far gone to ever be accepted. You have listened to the enemy whisper that your life is finished and that heaven has closed its doors on you.

Hear the voice of Jesus calling your name tonight. He is not standing here with a stone of condemnation; He is standing here with hands that were pierced for your salvation. You do not have to clean up your life before you come to Him. You do not have to hide your tears or put on a brave face. Bring your broken pieces, bring your guilt, and bring your weary soul.

Step out from where you are seated and come to the altar of grace. Experience the supernatural peace of knowing your sins are forgiven, your past is wiped away, and your future is secure under God’s open heavens. Come to Jesus right now.

Deliverance Session

In the mighty name of Jesus Christ, I stand under an open heaven and exercise kingdom authority over every power of darkness!

Every spirit of accusation, shame, guilt, and self-destruction that has tormented your mind, lose your grip and leave right now! Satan, you are a liar; the blood of Jesus silences your accusations! I command every demonic voice reminding you of your past failures to be struck deaf and mute by the power of the Holy Ghost!

Every generational curse of emotional pain, trauma, rejection, and chronic bitterness, be broken forever! Every chain of demonic addiction, secret lust, and sinful habits that have kept you trapped in patterns of failure, break off your hands, break off your feet, and break off your mind! I release the fire of God into your soul to burn away every root of resentment, unforgiveness, and inner rage.

You will no longer live as a prisoner of what people said about you. You will no longer walk in fear of their judgment. I decree your emotional healing right now! Be loosed from anxiety! Be delivered from depression! Be washed clean from every demonic imprint of sexual trauma, emotional abuse, and personal mistakes!

The open heavens are showering freedom, righteousness, and holy joy upon your life right now. You are accepted in the Beloved. You are redeemed by the blood of the Lamb. Walk out of this house completely liberated, totally healed, and filled with the power of the Holy Ghost, in Jesus’ victorious name!

Conclusion

Beloved family of God, leave here tonight walking light and walking free. The stones have dropped. The accusers have dispersed. Your Savior has spoken peace over your life. Do not pick up those old rocks of guilt on your way out the door, and do not pick up stones against anyone else. You are living under the Month of God’s Open Heavens, where mercy triumphs over judgment every single day. Hold your head up high, walk in holiness, and be a reflection of God’s unconditional love to everyone you meet. Go in the peace, grace, and absolute favor of Jesus Christ.

“The Stones Must Fall: Let Go of Judgment, Guilt, and Unforgiveness. God can change everything in your life”

God bless you abundantly.
